1. I think that I am good at playing soccer.
2. I feel good when i am playing defence on my soccer team.
3. if my coach didn't put me in the game, i would feel a little bad but not really.

Chapter 1
1. What problems or conflicts are presented in chapter one? Tao needing to find a rabbit is an obvious one; identify at least two more.
2. Predict the resolution of each conflict.
1. Tao wants to paint/draw but only the chosen ones can paint. The little village is running out of food.
2. I think a chosen one will teach Tao how to paint. Also, maybe the village will become nomads and they will go looking for food.
Chapter 2
What two important events happen in this chapter? Tao pulls out the bone that was in the wolf dog's mouth and when Tao goes to the swamp he hears a scream. ( what can that possibly mean)
Chapter 3.
1. What do Tao and Ram learn to do together
2. What decision does Tao tell Volt?
3. Look at Tao's decisions and actions from Volt's perspective. Pretend you are Volt. Write a first person paragraph explaining how you feel.
1. Tao and Ram learn to hunt together well.
2. Tao tells Volt that he will hunt alone.
3. I feel like Tao is a complete failure who can't do anything by himself. I wonder if he is getting help from someone. Tao will never be one of the chosen ones who go into the cave. I don't care if Tao gets hurt or killed, i just care that the clan gets enough food to survive the ice-age. Tao might've gotten those three rabbits but i will not allow that he goes hunting by himself because he will not learn anything by himself.

In a good paragraph, describe Tao's mother. Start with an interest grabber. Then write your topic sentence. Give three details or examples to support your thesis. Use a quotation from the chapter.
Tao's mom was very courageos to fight off the people of the clan. When the people went to go take away Tao she would just fight back to make sure that Tao was safe. Tao's mom was only like 16-17 years old but Kala said she knew things like a wise old lady. "She would always make things and give them away". She would always see things beautifully and thats probably why tao can too.

1. Which two animals does Tao try to draw?
2. Which is easier for him and why?
1. Tao tries to draw a wolf-dog and a horsey.
2. The wolf-dog is a lot easier for him because ram was right in from of him.

1. Graybeard realizes that Tao has broken two taboos of his clan. What are they?
2. Which taboo doesn't he know about yet?
3. Graybeard describes Volt differently than we have. What aspects of Volt's character is Graybeard acknowledging?
1. Tao broke that you can't hunt in the slough and that To hunts with a wolf-dog
2. Graybeard doesn't know that Tao paints.

I agree because if you didn't live there is no point to do it.

An important theme in this novel is that people should follow their dreams and do what they believe is right, even if they don't follow their society's expected ways.
The author examines this theme in a stone age setting. Imagine a similar situation today.
What situation did you imagine?
In the situation you imagined, should the person follow his or her dreams or should they follow society's rules? Give your opinion.
In my situation the person should follow their dreams because it is not illegal, and the person wants to do it so let them do it.

Why do you think Graybeard changed his mind?
What does this tell you about his character?
1. i think graybeard changed his mind because he saw how skilled Tao was at painting, and he might've thought that he could have been the next chosen one.
2. this tells people that graybeard is a bit flexible on what he says.

2. What almost happened to Tao?
1. mountains that walk are mountains that walk (naw im just kidding their mammoths)
2. Tao almost got killed but luckily ram saved him.

I think that graybeard is a good teacher because he is the master. i would have loved to be taught a skill by him because he is the best one that can do it.

2. Why is Tao afraid at the end of the chapter?
1. blood, honey, limestone and fat. i was surprised by the animal fat.
2.Tao is afraid that graybeard might get sick because he is OLD

1. Even if Ram had succeeded in hunting the deer, do you think it was a good idea of Tao's to "show off" his dog's ability to hunt? Explain.
2. Predict what will happen next. If you've read ahead, invent an alternate scene.
1. No, just because ram could've hunted the deer didnt mean that he didn't hurt Volt, so ram would die, and also wolf-dogs are naturally good hunters.
2. i read ahead...so it would have been cool if Garth like wolf-dogs and Volt hated them so they could have a showdown!

1. Tao crosses the river because he thinks he hears ram so he wants to go get him.
